Middle East Monitor - More than 700,000 Palestinians have been detained by Israel since 1967, representing over 20 percent of the whole population living under Israeli occupation. This was one of many shocking statistics and testimonies presented at the First International Conference on the Rights of Palestinian Prisoners and Detainees held in Geneva on 11-12 March.

A European rights association filed a case for the arrest of Israeli President, Shimon Peres, upon his arrival in Switzerland on Monday (28.03.2011) on the grounds that he is accused of committing "war crimes and crimes against humanity".

The next flotilla of boats that will set sail to break the siege of Gaza will be named FREEDOM FLOTILLA – STAY HUMAN in memory of Vittorio Arrigoni, an Italian activist and volunteer who was murdered April 14 by an extremist group in the Gaza Strip. “Vik,” 36, was a passenger on the first small flotilla that broke the siege in 2008, and has lived and volunteered in the blockaded region off and on ever since.
